E3 Cancelled?

Since my flight back to Seattle is delayed (thanks Alaska) I decided to catch up on my blog reading (thanks to the Sprint EVDO wireless card.) The big news that ripping across the gaming boards-n-blogs is this story over at Joystiq that E3 is cancelled. The story looks legit, so we’ll have to see how this plays out once the new week kicks in tomorrow. I know a lot of readers here have been to E3 in the past, so what do you think of this? I am still digesting what this means to the industry as I await confirmation, so let’s see what happens. Ok, back to editing this week’s show.

Edit: Come to think of it, I seem to recall that I predicted this (that the show was so large, it would cave in) during one of my shows a few months back...I'll have to go review them.

Wow...I'm going to have to wait for a confirmation on this, but I would be very disappoined if this was true.  Sure, E3 is hectic and can get a bit crazy at times, but it is a wonderful experience that I've heard so many great things about, but never actually experienced.  I know that many gamers that don't even go love the event.  I loved coming home every afternoon and spending hours reading up on my favorite games...

*waits for confirmation*

Gutted, I have never been to E3 but I have seen a lot , thanks to xbox website and xbox live marketplace mainly, but it looks like a fantastic event and am truely sad to hear that it might have been cancelled.  This dosen't sound like good news for the industry as they need an event like E3, where the public can come and check stuff out, inorder to promote games and hype stuff up to people.

I can only hope that they might do lots of smaller events around the world inorder for more people to have the experience.

Either way its a sad day to hear of the death of E3!

Why such a successful Expo that gets an incredible amount of internet/media coverage, gets cancelled? I can't belive this, I won't.

I'm not sure this is a good thing.  I still recall when the West Coast Computer Faire disappeared and also AppleFest.  Not having or downsizing E3 would seem to indicate the video game industry is also downsizing or possibly in trouble.

E3 was the one major event, outside of CES, that I enjoyed following over the Internet.

From what I'm reading the newer, improved E3 could be behind closed doors.  And while that'd good for magazine publishers, I'm not sure it's great for everyone else.  I think generating 'buzz' directly to the end-consumer helps tremendously.  I know from own experience with the last E3, there are items I'm particuarly excited about.

No matter what happens, I sincerely hope Microsoft considers holding some type of show presence to make new announcements, either inside or outside of E3.

man I really did love E3 and its wonderful content, coming home from school and hearing rumors and everything. At least MS still has X06, X07, etc..

The way information is so quickly available online these days does E3 really matter that much? Sure it was a great place for devs to make big announcements but can't you show off new products online quicker, better, and cheaper then spending time and money on E3?  Just a thought.

Well I am glad I finally made it to my first one this year, if it is in fact true.

Like Larry does make sense, the event has gotten so huge I can't see the return being there.
