The New York Times takes a look at the Wii controller in it’s ‘How it Works’ series. It’s a nice look behind the technology, complete with easy to understand graphics. (login required)
Interesting.
Shexy.
Cool. Maybe the New York Times could do a "How it Works" on Microsoft Customer Service Department and the McAllen, Texas Repair Center next. Because no one has been able to determine how they work yet.
Or if they work.
this is also intressesting: http://www.wiidammage.com
i tested the console also and its a fun concept but hard to keep you intressted, its fun at the start.. but at the end you preffer to relax (same story for the eye toy)
I see.. it's got pictures and everything..
Yeha, yeah pretty interesting, but what if instead of writing about the wii guys from xbox team start to solve the vga output problems:
- Washed colours, bleeded imaged in high contrast colours, black which looks as grey, and bad aspect ratio in most games when you use a 1280x1024 non panoramic monitor.
Major, when do you sleep man? a 4am post...damn.
sorry wrong url in my post

Not cool - Kotaku
"And the case against microtransactions mounts. Industrious NeoGAF poster "a master Ninja" has done a little digging and uncovered just how big some of the "downloads" are over the XBL marketplace for useless *** like Viva Piñata accessory packs. I say "downloads" because, well, you're not really downloading much at all. From the size of these files, it's clear you're just downloading a key that unlocks content already present on the disc. Content that you've already paid for by paying for the disc."
"If it's on the disc, and I paid $50 for the disc, I want everything that's on it. I paid for it, it's mine. Withholding content that's on that disc until I pay some MORE money is extortion. Microsoft, Major Nelson, anybody: this needs to stop. NOW."

@bigsteveouk
Wiimote on xbox would be a failure..
its about how much of the content we "download" is already on the discs we've paid for.
I want to play zelda and the new metroid... but I don't like using the wii-mote...
If only they would do one about the console itself. Maybe that way MS could learn how to make a reliable console.
"Major, when do you sleep man? a 4am post...damn."
No, it was posted at 1am his time.

Just picked up a Will at lunchtime. Just happened to be in a store at the right time. Looking forward to playing it tomorrow evening (office christmas night out tonight).
Just 4 days till I get to try mine.

No, it was posted at 4am his time. I live in the same area as he does and it says 3:57am
The accelerometer is just an off-the-shelf $2 part and I'm sure the image sensor is equally cheap/standard. Amazing Nintendo had the cojones to put those two together and design a whole console around them.
"Maybe that way MS could learn how to make a reliable console."
Oh snap! . I have to say all my Nintendo systems still work, all of them originals. Yeah my 360 HD-DVD stopped working, and have to send that one in for a replacement.
Oh well.
Meh.....It's been pretty blantantly obvious that the Wii remote is nothing more than an amalgam of past technologies repackaged in the hopes that maybe if we throw enough darts at the wall at once, a couple of them have to stick, right?
It should be more usefull if everybody could read the article, not only new york times suscribers...
What does everyone think about this information? It was collected by NeoGAF @ Game|Life

I'm all for new and innovative technologies like the wiimote, but Major, I think your engineering team needs to figure out how to build reliable consoles first.

To be fair, the wii does seem to be pretty good at what it does whilst being less strong with traditional titles - an approach that certainly hasn't hurt them with the DS. Remember that the DS launch titles were somewhat gimmicky as well, until developers found what worked, what didn't, etc.
For a traditional game, I'd go for the 360 every time, but stuff like Wii Sports, Monkeyball, Rayman, etc are great fun as party games.
my only comment here is that the person (cause you know it's all the same person posting under different names) posting about the marketplace 'key' downloads needs to shut the @#$% up.
If you don't want them don't download them!
also, most of those are unlockable in the game itself! those are just for lazy/rich people who want to purchase them instead of playing to unlock them!
