Chris Kohler over at Wired Magazine takes a look at some of the exclusive titles to come to both platforms this generation. What are your thoughts on the article and the titles?
COOOOLLLLLLLLL!!!!
both consoles are amazing! have em both... games will only get better
halo 3 definitely blows them all away. :D
His artical was what is basically a daily posting in any system wars forum. All good points though.
My thoughts:
MGS4 - on 360 Christmas 2008
FFXIII - never
PS used to be the exclusive kingpin, but they are hurting now. I've been real impressed with Microsoft's ability to steal exclusives away from Sony. Doesn't it make more sense for the developer's bottom line to put games out on multiple platforms anyway?
hardly any titles these days are exclusive.im still holding out for a possible u-turn on final fantasy games coming to the 360
Not surprised you posted this...
Represents why I stopped listening to your podcasts after GDC when you did the Sony bashing on Home and failed to address LittleBigPlanet and how it delivers on the user created content that MS promised but never delivered on.
I'm a multi-console gamer and I just do not understand the point of console wars. I find it completely immature and I try to avoid discussions like this but I had to let you know why I'm stopped listening to your podcasts.
its going to be a good summer
Um....did you read the article, Larry? That's not what they guys talking about. They're former PS3 exclusives that are now multiplatform. The only real exclusive is Katamari. Maybe you should read an article before you post about it. This sounds a lot like childish boasting.
What a jip, you worded it like they listed exclusives for both platforms when all it is, is pro MS propaganda.
MS has played this nexgen war very well in cornering sony into a point where they cannot recover. Exclusives? CHECK Price drop? WHENEVER YOU WANT WE WILL DO IT TO Market share? CHECK Developers on board? MAJOR CHECK Best games CHECK x's 100. Game over
I just don't have any reason to get a PS3. I got a PS2 because I wanted to play GTA:Vice City. I don't feel like I am missing anything. It is honestly kind of sad...
LOL :P
damm if we get final fantasy XIII on the 360 it would suck for me... I got the PS3 just to play that game. on the other hand if it does come out on 360 it's going to have achievements !!!
oo well At least I can use the PS3 as a blueray player..
HEY MAJOR I FOUND THIS OVER AT GAMETRAILERS.COM THOUGHT SINCE YOU USUALLY POST THINGS RELATED TO MS YOU MIGHT WANT TO LINK TO THIS ARTICLE AS WELL.

We need an awesome Grand Prix game for 360.
Its a blog with a view of the blogger, interesting view, and only a splattering of games, big titles from the point of gamers and sales. But games that have not rocked my world in the past, not a Sony play boy, Xboxer all the way. Its just adding to the sales hype and the E3 horizon, and until it sets i'll wait to get my hands sweaty. I just want to see how Criterion, show Burnout Paradise and how its online play effects the online Burnout community, without lobbies to meet up etc compared to thier games in the past? Anyhew, have a good time at E3, was set up to go, and heard we customers were not allowed, saved me and some friends some serious cash. So capture as much as you can and express it to us gamers and buyers of games.
PS.And you would have thought the blogger would have talked about the games nabbed before the PS3 was released and locked from PS3 hands for a year. As well as Sony's own studio stuff (i assume they have a gameworkshop) like Nintendo and Microsoft Games. Oh and tell Trixey her shoes are nice i read her blog earlier 2day. LOL
Great article. A lot of it rings true. I honestly am not a fanboy of either. I own an 360 and want a ps3 but I haven't found enough reason to justify the purchase aside from the blu-ray functionality that I so desperately want.
Third-party exclusives are going to go the way of the dinosaur as the developers/publishers need to make money to offset the high development costs. Unless MS or PS3 is willing to fork over $ to make a game exclusive it's not going to happen.
Why would a company ever leave money on the table by releasing a game for both 360 and Ps3 unless a MS or Ps3 made up the difference in sales?
This is why the guy who blogs for ThreeSpeech called out MajorNelson. The article linked above is obviously about how XBOX has taken exclusivity away from a lot of PS3 games. Yet MajorNelson's choice of title for his blog post on this obviously doesn't match the content of the article he's linked off to. The title of this blog post should have been "NA NA NA BOO BOO Sony, look at what we did to you." That's basically what is going on here, MajorNelson bragging for XBOX.
That would be the nail in the coffin for PS3 if Microsoft snagged a same day-and-date release for FFXIII. I REALLY hope MS has someone...anyone...working on that.
I bought my 360 because I knew gears of war was going to be great. I won't buy a PS3 if MGS4 becomes multiplatform. Note to SONY - games sell consoles.
Like many pointed out. They left out Ace Combat 6 going Xbox 360 exclusive. A major blow to Sony. Hopefully, that does not mean Ace Combat 7 could go to PS3 in the same manner Ridge Racer 7 was a launch title for the unit.
Beyond that. That was some good information as I did not realize Assassin's Creed was not a Sony platform exclusive from the get-go and that Rockstar wanted GTA IV to be a timed exclusive.
Sucks to be Sony but I still would trade some consoles exclusives for multiplatform just to have a chance at achievements and possibly Xbox Live play with Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy 13. What Sony fanboys don't realize about their free online service from some publishers is that Konami is in the habit of shutting down games after 1 year(see Metal Gear 3 for an example of this policy--that's worse than EA's polciies). 1 YEAR people? Do you honestly think Xbox gamers would stand for that? No way! We need 2 to 3 years of online play out of our games at the very least.
I've only seen the above information posted in PSM as a positive but I know Xbox gamers(and hopefully OXM) would see this policy as a negative.
You forgot one...crappy hardware that breaks down almost half the time. Check!...bullcrap unlock codes and cheesy add-ons for games...Check!
Hey Major,
What's up with your time on the post? 6:43pm?
MGS4 on 360 would be sweet. I'm not going to hold my breathe, but it would be awesome.
FFXIII DEFINITELY NEEDS TO HAPPEN. And for the love of God will they please remake FFVII already. Damn.
Good article but was not MGS4 a timed exclusive for PS3 coming out one year later on the 360? Or was that another rumor? Honestly I could not care as I feel the MGS series has dropped in quality after the first one.
I have never regretted my 360 and even with the hardware issues that plagued me since launch it is still the best console I have owned (owned them all) and I hope Microsoft will continue to dominate for the next several generations since the Japanese developers have mostly become lazy (Tenchu Z with PS2 graphics, How many ports of Ninja Gaiden can we have?, Do they all share the same J-RPG game and change the graphics while editing the story?) and that is all the PS2's fault.
