Today at the annual Game Convention in Leipzig, it was announced that Ubisoft has joined the Games for Windows program, with their first title 'Settlers: Rise of an Empire.' Plus, Microsoft Game Studio announced 'Train Simulator 2.' These announcements join the hardware news from yesterday. Speaking of hardware, did you know that the Microsoft Hardware division is 25 years old?

It seems Microsoft need to seriously change whoever it is they are using to manufacture this stuff. This is becoming all too common. How long before someone IS hurt with these sorts of problems?
That said, in the case of the wheel it sounds like its probably the force feedback motor burning out. That would likely take a fair few hours of intense racing to happen hence why they said its rare. There's always someone who goes for those 24 hour gaming sessions that it going to break their wheel like this.
How do things like train simulator 2 get made while games like the mechwarrior series disappear.

Bit underwhelmed by the coverage of this event, would have been nice to have more in the way of conferences/streaming video etc.

did you ever play the original Train Simulator? I couldn't give a flying f*** about Trains but it was actually really good fun! Seriously, I enjoyed it!
There hasn't been any big news from Leipzig this year, but I guess it's cool to see Ubisoft joining the Games For Windows program...
I had a chance to sit down with one of the makers of Train Simulator 2 today at a one on one meeting at Games Convention. The game is still a while away from release and actual gameplay therefor couldn't be shown. Yet what the team is planning for the second version is simple mind-blowing, essentially it's Flight Sim on tracks - the whole world is in there, every single track-route that they get their hands on will be in the game. Now you don't have a more mission based gameplay as in the first installment but you can go pretty much seemlessly throughout the world. Of course the good stuff from Flight Sim will also be in there: multiplayer, mission-type activies, real time weather, extensive community and mod support. I'm excited to what's to come...
It's pretty sad you guys cannot "Bring it Home" to those at home who cannot attend this convention. It's open to the entire public for crying out loud. Didn't want to travel overseas huh?
I would like to see some loving for the Europeans like Sony is. Sony seems to be captitalising on MS weakness or shortcomings if you will.

Btw our MSXII works perfectly today. I played that pinball game that came with it not many months ago.
Maze of Galious and that mummy game with co-op and sword-throwing British types were good stuff.
