This just in: The Xbox 360 HD DVD Player price has dropped from $179.99 to $129.99 (U.S. MSRP.) This new price is effective immediately in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Combine the new price with the 5 free HD DVD offer and it’s a pretty good deal.
Hmmm, most of the major movie companies or w/e its called moved on to Blu-ray so personally its still a waste.
Still a joke that this isn't an integrated device
What is the new price for it in Australia?
Why on earth would you want to buy an hd dvd player after blu ray has pretty much cemented itself as the future?
Should just have dropped to $50 with Blu-ray crushing HD-DVD 0.o
Too little too late, HD-DVD is about to have the plug pulled having been on life support for a long time.
hd dvd is dead that's why.....
According to http://www.engadget.com/ it was 79$ on amazon. Sold out now.
When's the Blu-Ray player coming out now that HD-DVD is circling the drain?
That little 'breakdown' of HDDVD selections is retarded. You can't get what you want, you can only get one from each section? How is that free selection? You've got the better movies in one section, so we're stuck with getting one good movie and 4 pieces of crap.
Weak.
Amazon sold out of the Xbox 360 HD DVD stock after one of their crazy one day Deal of the Day sales at $79.99. At that price I almost bought it and I don't have an HD TV. Yet.
Amazon had it for $79.99 this morn if that tells you what it should be listed at.
Ya know, everyone keeps saying HD-DVD is dead, but if people keep buying the players and the movies are still out there, is it really? It could be dead for 6 months and the average consumer would never know. By then the sales surge has convinced some studios to reconsider....
I haven't bought one (yet), but it does make you think.
I hope this revives HD-DVD's pulse because I don't think it's smart to allow Sony to control the HD format.
This is somewhat tempting to get for Heroes, the Matrix trilogy, Planet Earth and the Bourne trilogy.
I almost bought one on saturday and then I was talked out of it by some Gamestop Employees. Like they said "HDDVD is dead!" All but 1 major studio are on BluRay so I will stay with my PS3.
Nice, I love my HD-DVD player even with all the talk of it being a dead format. I have 36 HD-DVDs and will continue to buy them even if the format dies come this summer. Regardless of what anyone says, the player will still play the HD-DVDs, and the movies will still be HD should the format die. There's some great movies to be had on HD-DVD. And if the format dies, there will be some fantastic bargains out there! It's kind of a win win either way. I have no plans to go Blu until they can offer a sub $200 2.0 compliant player and that may be a few years so I'll enjoy my HD-DVDs for now.
I'm glad I picked up a PS3, great deal on a great Blu-Ray player.
Even though Blu-ray will be the long term winner, HD DVD is still a solid format and this is a pretty good deal when you factor in the mail-in offer.
It IS a good deal, no matter if HD DVD is on it's way out or not. It's only meant to compete with Blueray for a little while anyways, right? I heard Microsoft has some plans of their own.
I agree with the HD-DVD losing the battle against Blu-Ray, but except from that, does it play the Xbox 360 games too? I mean, my laser is dying and I want to have my Xbox ready for GTA in a couple of months; I can't afford having my Xbox in repair when GTA IV launches! It would be the same as missing my children's first birthday!
ha shame there are no movies comming out for it
The question is however - is a good deal on a Beta Max still a good deal?
Will we get a similar price drop in the uk?
