Earlier today, Activision announced that you can use your Xbox avatar as a playable character in game. If you want a preview of what this will look like, download the special GH 5 trailer from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace. In the trailer, you’ll Xbox’s own Don Mattrick, Shane Kim, Phil Spencer and Marc Whitten take their Avatars from mild-mannered video game geeks to glam-rockin’ metalheads and “Shout It Out Loud” with a Redmond rendition of KISS. I am sure If there was a way to have your avatar as a roadie, that’s where you’d find mine with this band.

I wanted to make you aware of an unfortunate incident that has resulted in the loss of all data on the Halo Wars Xbox LIVE Leaderboards. This includes all singleplayer, multiplayer and Trueskill leaderboards, as well as all matchmaking data, resulting in the Halo Wars leaderboards being reset to original launch day status.
This was human error related to Xbox LIVE servers. It is not a broader service issue and will not impact other titles or Xbox LIVE experiences. The Xbox LIVE team is investigating the cause to prevent this from occurring in the future.
Thank you to Robot Entertainment for working with us through this issue and thank you to our Halo Wars community for your patience as we've sorted this out. On behalf of everyone at Xbox LIVE, I’d like to apologize for the incident and any frustration Halo Wars players have experienced in having their statistics disappear from the Leaderboards. You can rest assured that we’re putting processes in place to prevent this from happening in the future.
Waves 1 and 2 of the Xbox LIVE Update Preview Program have been pushed out and we have seen quite a few Xbox LIVE members already download and start checking out all the new features in this update. We are collecting the necessary information for another Wave, so please hang tight if you have been accepted but have not received your update yet. A fair number of you have not provided accurate information (like an invalid console ID or serial number) so if you previously signed up, and have not received the update, you may want to visit connect and confirm your information.
If you haven’t signed up yet, you are still in luck – we are is still taking additional signups. You can do read more about the program on my blog, or on Xbox.com. If you want to get some of your friends to try the new Netflix party mode, get then to sign up and you can try it out together!

Each year that your Xbox LIVE membership needs to be renewed and you have a credit card on file with us, we automatically renew the account. We’ve heard from some members that, for a variety of reasons, they’d like the option to turn this off. I am going to show you how to do this in a few easy steps.
- Sign in to Xbox.com and go to the My Account section.
- Click the Membership level link on the left.
- You’ll see a page that has your Membership level, and the end date. Under that, you’ll see your “Automatic Renewal” status.
- If it reads ON (like the screenshot above) You can click the ON link and you’ll be brought to next page that will let you switch it on or off. (screenshot)
- Make your selection, then click next.
- You’ll be returned to your Membership level page, where you can confirm your selection (screenshot)

We’re in the process of sending notification emails out to the first group of people for the Xbox LIVE Update Preview Program. Please check your email (and spam folder…just in case) to see if you were selected. If we stay on schedule, those selected should receive a prompt to accept the update later today/tonight.
We’ll be sending another wave of notifications later this week, but we are holding registration open a bit longer to make sure everyone has a chance to participate. If you signed up but did not receive a mail yet, please head over to the connect site and review your information to make sure it is correct. I am being told that there are quite a few people did not properly complete the survey. If this is the first you are reading about the Preview Program, go ahead and sign up and you may be chosen to participate before the update is released on August 11th.
Update: Sign in to the connect site to see if you are accepted, since many of you did not opt-in to allow us to send you emails, or your email was not properly record in the system.

Headed to Comic Con this week? If so, Xbox has some great stuff lined up in San Diego. From finding out what’s next in the Halo franchise, to meeting everyone’s favorite Guild member there is something for everyone. Check out the full schedule and make plans to see all the action. Joining me onstage for the discussion will be Ubisoft’s Alexandre Parizeau (Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction), Valve’s Chet Faliszek (Left 4 Dead 2), BioWare’s Casey Hudson (Mass Effect 2), Bungie’s Paul Bertone (Halo 3: ODST), and Epic Games’ Cliff Bleszinski (Gears of War 2.) There is a lot going on over the next few days, so if you have the opportunity to attend it promises to be a good time.
