On the other hand, people routinely pay for t-shirts that promote restaurants, rock bands, and other crap. People even pay top dollar for shirts that have the shirt-makers logos all over the front. I figure - you should pay me to give you that kind of advertising.

But if people are fond enough of a brand, they'll pay to display their "fanclub membership."

Yeah pics and themes - come on. I won't buy any of that crap. I need a to buy a camera or buy pictures from companies to come up with an OK gamer pic, instead of using one of my own on my PC?

Nah.

I won't spend more than $5 on *any* retro title, regardless of what shovelware (maps, levels, characters, etc.) is added to it.

Bring on the new stuff like Castle Crashers, Strong Arms and Hoopworld and I'll be more likely give you my $10. And Lumines ala carte won't sell as well as an all-in-one $20 bundle would.

Also, am I the only one who think's it's ridiculous to export people to pay to advertise your products? Game-related themes should be free, to promote word-of-mouth and goodwill. Publishers only have a short window of opportunity to boost their game sales . Charging for such trivialities will turn people off of your game.

(Yes, I know, "don't buy it then". Trust me, I don't. I've spent more than $100 in the Marketplace, but not on themes or gamerpics.)

re: Bringing it Home Day 8 (con't)

I don't consider Doom to be overpriced, so I guess I'm in the minority.

Dashed through episode one on Ultra Violence and nabbed half the achievements last night. I intend to play through at least a couple more episodes tonight, then hop online for some deathmatch over the weekend to grab the 50 and 100 kills badges.

Yeah Wolfenstein 3D was the first widely popular FPS, but we all know that DOOM brought it to the masses. DOOM was the game that inspired a million copies. DOOM was the GTA of it's time for opportunist politicians. DOOM was the game that made myself and many others jelous of their PC owning friends for the first time.

DOOM was a landmark title and is the main seed of the FPS market today.

I was very excited to play it over LIVE in moth deathmatch and co-op! And I look forward to DOOM 2 and Quake eventually. $10 is a little steep, but I know I will get more play out of it than any other LIVE ARCADE game to date, so I was happy to pay it.
