Wow. People are freaking demanding. I understand the frustration at some of the retro content (Time Pilot? Scramble? Why?), but this is just appalling.
How about some suggestions, people?
Mine
- SHMUPS (Shoot-em-ups). Not the Doom kind, but the R-Type/Gradius kind. This is a sorely under-appreciated genre, and I think XBLA is the perfect format for these things. Gimme Raiden 2! Espgaluda never saw a home release over here. Gimme.
-Platformers. Cloning Clyde is wicked fun, but a bit slowed down by the puzzle element. Let's get some of the platformers of old. Anyone remember Rocket: Robot on Wheels?
- Rare games/cult classics. Sonic CD. A graphically enhanced version of NiGHTs. Einhander (good luck =\). You guys got Alien Hominid, keep it up!
- Retro game enhancements. Pac-Man was released without two-player when the original had it? How does that make sense. If a game like that is going to be released for five dollars, then it needs to be bigger and better, not worse. In the case of Pac-Man, it could be a collection of Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Junior Pac-Man, etc. For Dig-Dug, it could be a Dig-Dug and Mr. Driller double-pack. If you somehow got Mega-Man on there, how about a couple of sequels thrown in, too? Better yet, how about giving us the option to play in either the original Retro mode or in a new "enhanced" mode with better graphics, i.e. the Mega-Man remakes for PSP? Remixed versions with bonus levels, weapons, characters, etc. Basically, straight ports like Pac-Man and Galaga are lazy. If I'm going to pay for something that's been around for two decades, I want some extras, and it looks like just about everyone else sees it the same way.
- Indie developers! Instead of them coming after you, someone should be looking up these guys and hunting THEM down. I was ecstatic when I heard of my favorite demo coming to Live Arcade in the form of Mutant Storm. It was smaller and more arena-like, but it was still Mutant Storm. The sequel is going to be what it was meant to be, and I'm really damned happy. However, in the meantime, there are tons of indie developers out there who just may think that they may as well not bother asking a giant like the 360 to play host to one of their games. Make the first move, and it may very well turn into a great relationship.
- Arcade games that have NOT been released for home play. Ever. Aside from the SHMUPS, there are things that I remember fondly and think would be an utter BLAST to play at home. Did anyone ever play Planet Harriers? Yes, a shooter, but holy CRAP that thing rocked. Although I doubt it would fit under the 50MB limit (which I think is crap, by the way). Speaking of which...
- Get rid of or raise the limit for the size of these things. I understand the goal of the 50MB limit (quick downloads, instant gratification stuff), but to get some of the better arcade games into the system, there's going to have to be some more room breath for that data.

That's my two cents. Keep it up, Major.

Mujah

PS On a completely seperate side note, any clue about them there larger hard drives for the 360? Mine is bloated with high-def videos I don't want to delete and demos of games that won't be coming out for quite a while. Need. Space.
Oh, and releasing it without a way to transfer all of the user's data (all 13+ gigs of it) would be suicide. I'm sure you guys already thought of that, but just a heads-up.

re: Soon: Dig Dug

Eric, again...you need to ask Sega what happend. And how am I enabling anybody? The people are speaking their minds. I mean the response is overwhelming, go look on any Xbox 360 general forums on all the major sites and you'll see the majority of gamers are sick of the retro games and want something new. Go buy a new game? I bought 3 new 360 games in August and 3 in September. I'm getting 2 this month and 4 next month. We're talking about the arcade here. Of course you're happy with the arcade, you're a retro fan, and the last 20 or so arcade games released have all been retro games. Those of us waiting for Lumines, on the other hand, have been waiting sine July, which is when it was supposed to come out, it's now October and no comments from MS at all. No reason to complain, huh, just whining right? I am 25 so I grew up with the old games as well as the new. I am not that old (not quite that young anymore either) but I can appreciate the games from the past days of my very early childhood like Dig Dug and many of the others. Just because the older games don't cater to YOU specifically doesn't mean there aren't thousands of other people like me who love the old stuff.

Obviously you guys complaining are the minority as these older games seem to be selling pretty well. So to the XBLA team, I say thank you for keeping video game history alive! Keep bringing the old stuff as well as the new as I can appreciate both for what they are.

re: Soon: Dig Dug

PHANTASY STAR BETA HAS BEEN DELAYED

My problem with you whiners is that you fail to appreciate these games and their inclusion on Arcade. If you want up-to-date games, then get off your lard butt and go to the store to pick up Dead Rising or something to show off your fancy HDTV and 360.

Arcade is filling a niche, and I am part of that market. I WANT to play retro games every other generation or so at affordable prices. Some developers are preserving the reputations of these games by freshening them up for "old coots" like me and others.

So, screw you and your constant whining for new material. XNA is going to give you your homebrew fix and more. Stop enabling other pissants to act like the whole world owes them something.
