Thanks Major! I purchased the new HD-DVD player for the 360 and so far I'm loving it. Not only is the player great, but the menu operation and other features of HD-DVDs are leaps and bounds more efficient and enjoyable than standard DVDs. I'm not sure I can go back to using regular DVD technology again. Great job Microsoft for giving the consumer a choice for our next generation gaming and movie experience!

Brought back one the the HD-DVD drives from the US to the UK and hooked it up and it seems to be running ok.

The power adaptor/lead is in two bits with the standard two prong power lead from the plug/socket to the power convertor so I could just swap out the us plugged lead for a uk one.

Had a few glitches with the hd-dvd drive on top of the 360 but put it on the shelf and it seems ok.

The king kong picture seemed amazing and thats on an older plasma.

I too have the HD-DVD playing and I'm loving it. The bad thing is, it's starting to spoil me where I want all of my videos in HD. Dang it. I've got almost 400 DVD's to replace :)

Just got the XBOX 360 HD DVD Player, only to find out the USB Port in the back does not work. The only way to play the new player ti s hook it up in the front, which looks like carp. Anyone else having problems with their USB Port in the back of the unit, not working?

Yes! If you use the VGA connection, SD DVDs will upconvert to whatever you set the 360 at and your TV supports. However, component has some AACS restriction from the motion picture folks that prevent it from upconverting past 480p.

I read a while ago somewhere that the HD-DVD drive would allow you to upconvert existing DVDs. Haven't seen anything about it lately. Does the HD-DVD drive allow you to upconvert regular DVDs? That's about the only thing keeping me from getting it instead of waiting to get a stand-alone player later.

That's what I figured the space was, but I was afraid to delete it for fear it was the software that made it work or something. Glad to be 100% sure it's ok to delete.

When I first installed the HD-DVD drive and played King Kong, it had bad hiccups every 10-20 secs or so, but I shutdown and restarted, and it's been smooth ever since.

Any official support from MS for PC drivers to work with it, or do we just need to get the Toshiba drivers and go with that?

Same here Atomicow. I'd love to have the latest and greatest, but having too much clutter around the entertainment centre is sooooo 2001.

OR I could put that $200 towards the $450 I've already got saved up for that "other" black box. Hmmmm.....

Any HD-DVD drive you find will be using an ATA cable. The transfer rate of this cable is 133Mb/s. USB2.0 runs at 480. USB is fast enough to run this drive.

you have to get up anyway to take the disc out if you're ejecting it, so that doesn't kill me. Smart to have though I guess, every other player has that.

I love my player, it's everything I was hoping for. I'm running it through the VGA cable and it looks amazing. Very happy with my purchase!

love the player, movies look great. i like the set-up of 2 items, i have my 360 horizontal and my hd dvd player vert. (when playing movies i lay it horiz.) as stated, wish you could eject the disc after hd dvd is loaded instead of having to hit the eject button.

The HD DVD player is launched in Europe on December 1!! I wonder if it´s region free though or if I should just import the U.S. one?
