Yep, there are some big time audio problems. On Batman Begins, there's some lag on the DD+ track and some even bigger lag on the TrueHD track. This has been documented by alot of users on AVS Forums. Can't really speak on the flat sound, as my speakers aren't the best to begin with anyway. But I do find that I have to turn the volume up alot more compared to regular DVD's and also in relation to playing games on the 360.

The update didn't do anything for the DD+ downconversion. It does definitly sound flat. Dialog and explosion are all same volume level and movies sound very weak. DTS and TrueHD sound much better but most movies only have DD+ soundtrack. Hopefully this is addressed very soon.

what happens to the guys that are not on the net. why dont you just test the items 1st. evey thing that comes out now needs a patch where have all the good programers gone.

The update killed my drive. Now it won't read discs. Has anyone else had this problem?

In Canada we got the HD-DVD, KK, remote and KK game for $199.

The store offering this was out of KK games so they gave me $42 credit - Viva Pinata was $49 so I got that.

So the net cost of the HD-DVD was less than $100 CDN (factoring the cost of KK movie and the uni' remote).

AWESOME!!!

LOL, good luck with that. Good thing you bought a 1080p TV, that's the only HD RES the PS3 supports for movies. I guess Sony could release an HD-DVD add on in a couple years after Blu-Ray dies. (If they don't go bankrupt in the process.) Blu-Ray is well on it's way to the grave with the horrible TV support the PS3 is crippled with.

Use a vga to dvi adapter. Thats what I am doing, and 1080p works just fine.

Jorge HDMI: THANK YOU! That's my whole point here. I love my 360 and want to get the HD-DVD, but I don't have a vga input and my tv only does 1080p through DVI and HDMI (which is what almost every 1080p tv is like). So basically the 360 can't do 1080p for me and many others. If it can't do 1080p what's the point of buying HD-DVD? And that is very frustrating when you just paid $3000 dollars for a 1080p tv for this and then microsoft can't support it.

And the laserman with the help desk feedback, I got a very similiar response, but at least i was asking about HDMI. They don't even answer your questions. I got more help on a joystiq.com comment section then I did from MS help desk.

This made me laugh, I asked the support lines for 1080i support over VGA and got an answer back about HDMI - I didn't ask a thing about HDMI and was very clear and specific, but got the answer below.

Also every help person I spoke to assured me it *did* do 1080i via VGA only to go back on it after they checked.

Those helpdesk people really need more training.

I'm hoping that soon we will see 1080i over VGA,(so all the high end home theatres with CRT projectors can use it) and PLEASE have 71.928Hz as an option.

Why?

Because the HD-DVDs are native 23.967frames per second and that doesn't fit into 60Hz which means 3:2 pulldown and J-U-D-D-E-R.

Whereas 71.928Hz is a clean 3x multiple of the frame rate, silky smooth pans and movement, no need for de-interlacing just perfect playback.

This is what people do on their PCs to get perfect DVD playback, and would make the XBOX HD-DVD player the ultimate and would wipe the floor with Sony.

But if you can't do that then at least have 1080P that works - the porches are the wrong size and not everyone can sync on green.

There are some early comments about how "cool" it is that updates can be made on the hddvd drive. This scares me. Yesterday, I could play any hddvd from anywhere in the world, but now I have no assurance that if I buy foreign discs that they will continue to work. Many hddvds that wont be released stateside or havent been released yet (ie Harry Potter 4) are available in the UK and the rest of Europe now.

As far as I'm concerned, thanks a million for the player, it works great. Leave it alone.

Its only got 4.7 million lines of code because Microsoft are crappy coders....you only need look at Windows and IE...give it to some open source guys and they'd do it in less than a million I bet ;)

Not to bash on Blu-ray, but today at work our Pioneer "non final prototype" blu-ray player was off. I hit power and I am not lying, this stupid thing took over a minute to display a splash screen and another 30 seconds for the movie to start. I know the Toshiba HD-DVD players take a while too but not that long. The 360 drive loads quick (around 10 seconds or so) and has a good price.
