I refuse to buy a song. and CDs? CDs are a dying breed, along with record stores. Honestly, zunepass is about the best deal there is for buying music, and you're right, one day I will want another media player, but not for a few years, and when I do get another? i'm covered, because it'll most likely be another zune device.

re: j in business week

furian: for 14.99 a month you could buy those albums to keep on CD, which is better quality and will never time out. One day, you'll want a new media player, and suddenly everything on your zune will be worthless as soon as the payments stop.

why would you want to end a deal like that? I have close to 2,000 songs on my zune, and i'm only paying the cost of one CD a month to get it. it's like heaven on earth, I can have just about a band's entire catalog for 14.99 a month.

J Allard was the man that for me put a face on the Xbox 360 and really started the hype, why not a interview where he gets to talk about how he views the 360 now, a year after release and where its going?

He is not involved in the 360 process anymore (from what i have read anyways) but his opinion is very much valued and in a way more nuanced then Peter Moore's.

I wish the big corps would realize this.

I buy my music legitimately and then I strip my DRM off of it if possible because I don't want to be limited to where and how I can use something I paid for. It's like buying a butter knife and being told I can only, ever, use it for butter. What if I want some peanut butter spread on my toast one morning? If the Music Industry made butter knives you'd need to buy a seperate knife for butter, peanut butter, stabbing puppies, and spreading jam. I wanna buy one knife and use it how I please within a fair use license.

Microsofts DRM is the equivilent of buying a CD and only being able to listen to it in 1 CD player.

DRM only hurts honest people, the dishonest folks aren't buying music from those outlets that put it on there... so they never have to deal with DRM. If they're downloading DRMed music they're idiots, or just stripping it off anyway, if they're being dishonest about it they've found a way to mass distribute the music already and your DRM is doing nothing but frustrating the honest consumers like me.

re: j in business week

shift key slows you down, lol nice

I mean, what would they talk about; the Zune being a complete failre right out of the gate? Or check up on VelocityGirl and see how that user-created content is coming? Or why anyone within the 360 community should care about what he might have to say concerning the 360 since his Houdini after launch?

Buy something that cares about your rights instead. Lots of very good Korean models still work like normal USB storage too - makes life much easier. While the music industry love to bash that type of device, I have over 2500 songs on my player. And you know what? I own the CD of -every- -single- -one-. I stopped buying new music from big labels when they started being such idiots.
