I had to call 4 times to get a supervisor to understand that the wireless headset was bought yesterday and could not possibly be out of warranty. They insisted that my 360 was out of warranty since my 360 was out of warranty.

I painfully explained to each and every one of them that the issue was with the wireless headset not the wired one that came with my 360. Finally on my 4th call and 4th supervisor she said Microsoft was aware of the problem and there was nothing she could do at this time. Exchange it for another one at the store was her suggestion. Errrr. keep swapping them with amazon.com until I get one that works, that is insane!

The outrage over the "new" customer service is reaching new heights.

I'm not going to waste my time slamming MS here, but ever since the policy change on Oct. 19th, the Customer Service has been nothing but a brick wall for nearly anyone having problems. They actually want me to fax a reciept to prove it's under warranty and the product hasn't even been out for 90 days.

Really sad, cause I think MS has a chance at being the market leader here but if they don't do an about face on how they are treating customers..paying customers, then they will lose ground rather quickly.

Don't do the Sony arrogance thing. It's not working for them, so it won't work for you. Now is the time to pay attention or you will pay with something else down the road.

re: Wireless Headset issues?

Microsoft was always considered a bit of a joke with my friends (several who work in the computer industry).

This was mainly due to their windows os which would either need constant updating, patching or re-installing until the new version would come out forcing you to re-install another os which would just perpetuate the cycle.

After the first xbox + xbox live some of my friends attitudes began to change. One of my mates (who owns his own computer business) refuses to install any MS OS on his PC actually bought an xbox + a sub to xbox live + to this day is very happy with it.

However with several of my friends having problems with our 360's + the state of the customer "disservice" this is seriously putting others off.

Out of 12 launch consoles (manufactured in 2005) there is 2 left that function. But of these two (mine being one of them) we are suffering occasional freezes + the "put the disk in a 360" problem.

My one mate is actually on his 5th console + he still has a working import megadrive + pc engine in his attic so I know that his treatment of his consoles is second to none.

Now I am having complaints for my new wireless headset (+ it looks like I am far from alone).

So by being an early adopter of technology I am punished by having to spend extra for hardware which doesn't work correctly + then spending more time + effort trying to explain to someone who isn't qualified to do the job they are employed for.

I have already conviced a couple of friends to not bother buying a 360 for their kids as it will probably have problems + the wii is a better choice as it will probably be more robust (my n64 + gamecube still work correctly).

As for friends they were loving the look, weight + sound quality of the new headset but I will advise them to wait until microsoft sorts their act out.

ps. I am at least 12ft (+ 2 concrete walls) away from any fridge, microwave etc + the only things wireless in any sort of close proximity is the pad (same prob with the wire one) + the headset itself.

All of the good PR that MS has gained through xboxlive + the first xbox is slowly slipping away probably never to return to the same level.

re: Wireless Headset issues?

Its pretty obvious that the whole Xbox support program is a joke that is both poorly managed and unprofessional with untrained staff. Also that the 360 and accessories have serious quality control issues.

Luckily in the UK our consumer laws protect the customer better and every product comes with a 12 month guarantee as standard. Hardware is replaced no hassle within the guarantee period and a new 12 month guarantee is issued. The 3 months offered in America is quite frankly shocking, even if it is the standard there.

I am now on my 3rd 360 in 12 months and this one has again got problems, straight out the box from day 1 and will need replacing again no doubt.

What concerns me is the total lack of customer care and service the guys at MS offer. They seem more interested in reaching the magical '10m shipped' goal instead of a satisfied customer base.

For such a big company the complaints procedure is also shocking.

I have written a letter of complaint expressing my hardware concerns to 3 head people at MS (Major included), as well as sending a registered letter to MS Head Office in England. Surprising not one of the 4 has bothered to acknowledge receipt of my letter or has had the courtesy to reply.

They say the 'Xbox brand' is a 3 phase attack on the gaming market in the race to win marketshare and become number one. If they are not careful, customers confidence in the hardware will affect sales in the long term and all the initial goodwill and groundwork will be lost.
