When I purchase a game, my main goal is to finish the single player campaign (SPC). If I haven't finished that on my own, then I have not beat the game.

Once I have completed the SPC I feel that I have beat the game.

I feel that achievements are reasons to keep coming back to the game after that, but they don't tell whether you have beat a game or not.

It all depends on co-op. If the co-op campaign has new levels or areas that need to be beaten, then I might consider that too. But it has to have the option for online co-op in order to make it nearly fair to take it into consideration. Not everyone has a buddy to play with. And even, if the co-op is online, some people don't have XBL and you can't hold it against them for not beating the co-op campaign.

I'm mixed, but I feel that if you beat the SPC, then you are good to go. The others are bonus's that make the $50 worth it.

My biggest problem with many games is the amount of contiguous time required to actually complete the single player story (if there indeed is one). Life does a pretty good job of competing with my game time. When I do get to sit down, I like to be engrossed in a game for a while and then move on.

I downloaded the free Oblivion add-on this past weekend and fired up Oblivion for the first time in months. It took a good while to recover from the "what the heck was I supposed to be doing?" phase before I remembered why I stopped playing in the first place. Its just too much stuff. I have enough strangers accosting me with unrelated time-consuming quests in real life. Don't need it when I game. That, and the unnerving sense of lonliness in the game. I'm so used to playing on Live that this game seems like I'm being a recluse when I play. So, I think I've decided I'm "done" with Oblivion for a good while. What would it take to get me back into this game? Co-Op.

This is why I am still playing Gears of War. I'm not that good at it, but I love being able to play through the campaign with a buddy who can talk me through it, and lend a hand with the critters.

The bottom line for me seems to be that adding co-op functionality to long single player campaigns extends both the value of the game, and the time I would spend trying to get through it.

Oh, and let me save anywhere I want. As many times as I want. The reason I stopped playing Dead Rising was that save system was simply inexcusable. That they tried to spin it as intentional to "enhance the gameplay" was a load of crap.

My two cents. Great show, Major.

re: Show #205 The one about Small Arms with e

Thanks, Major! Loved the show!

Like Pete, I have also had many problems with my box. I am on my second now, but it needs to be fixed (freezing, and will hardly read my oblivion disc after the last update). I keep mailing support and they tell me to call the hotline. Then I call the hotline and they tell me to mail my details to support!

Still love the 360 though (when I can get it to work! :(

Now for my VP Rant:

I was having so much fun in this game and I introduced my nieces to it. I had them all create their own gardens and built them up. Then I bought them a 360 for Christams and tried to bring the games over to their 360. Guess what? It is prevented. You cannot move or copy VP game saves. Have you ever heard of a computer diallowing you to back up your data. Well Viva Pinata does that!

re: Show #205 The one about Small Arms with e

also....I have definately won 100 matches...and have not got that achievement yet!!!!

I think I'm finished with a game when I don't want to play it anymore.

Even if I didn't beat the game. If I beat the game and I don't feel like getting achievements anymore, thats fine, I'm done. If I play a game and get all the achievements and get stop playing, then I'm finished. I could get all the achievements and still want to keep playing though.

The game is finished when I say it is.

Guess what!?! They did not update the replacement with the latest firmware. No testing at all was involved. Now my replacement is freezing because of the update.
