What I like to know is: will DTS be supported for normal DVD viewing too or is that already the case? I hooked up my 360 to my receiver through an optical cable. Can anyone confirm?

@ tony:

apparently not, i havent been able to play CoM at all. I see that there are people that dont have a problem but your guess is as goos as mine. I havent been able to get a customer service rep to admit that it's the player. i have returned the disks 3 times and still the same problem

i just bought planet earth on hd dvd and it will not play on my 360 hd drive, is this what the update will address?

Digital 5.1 plays back as recorded if your source material was not recorded in 5.1 you will not get bass from your sub which is the .1 of 5.1. Most likely the source isnt 5.1 so set your amp to prologic instead which will decide for its self which sounds it sends to the sub. I thought I had a problem too till I worked this out. Its not the 360s problem at all.

Yes, I have a Bravia 32in LCD TV (KDL-32V2000)and find that although games and the dash look best at 720p (the Sony seems to overcompensate when scaling and you get sharpness ringing around black areas on light backgrounds, but the effect is very small on 720p as this is nearer the native res), movies seem much sharper at 1080i with the default TV sharpness setting.

I've been watching Planet Earth and it's fab. The BBC are amazing.

When playing a HD DVD I have to crank up my volume compared to when I play a DVD.

The sound is still soft! :-S

Can anyone explain where these new settings are located and how to get to them. Preferrably the dts 5.1 and dynamic range control toggle settings.

16:9 = Widescreen

Widescreen > Full Screen

4:3 = Full Screen

Does this fix the problem I've been having with Children of Man in HDDVD? If not, someone at Microsoft should be doing something about it, its pissing me off!
