To the developer: it's waaaaayyyy, waaaaaayyyy too early to start taking advantage of your customers with premium content, especially considering that most people think this game's overpriced to begin with. Seriously, you just lost me here with whatever you're trying to do.

re: Monster Madness: In Game Content

jayntampa:

people are mad because of how it looks. Whether they buy the game or not has nothing to do with it. The fact is, people are begining to see a trend that developers are doing 1 of 2 things

1. over charging for dlc

2. leaving things out of the disc to charge for them later

Now you may not agree with either statement, typically its a case by case thing. Some games fit those, some dont. Regardless, the complaint/fear is that if the community doesnt speak up that the practice of doing the above two things will become standard.

Some examples are...

1. Guitar Hero2 expensive content (and seriously where are the new downloadable songs?)

2. Gears of War maps not free (least till september. Epic wanted all 12 new maps to be free)

3. EA charging for cheats

4. viva Pinata had content people thought should have been in game

5. Horse armor in oblivion

these are a few of the big ones people have gotten upset over. It seems that when a new one comes along it brings back all the previous ones and makes for a greater need to speak out.

Me... I still believe they should have never put out the content so close to the launch window. (only exception being guitar hero 2 as they advertised there would be dlc readily avaliable. They had a whole previous game to draw from.... alas readily was not the case)

Just dont throw content up so soon if you arent advertising it as "will have frequant new content"

re: Monster Madness: In Game Content

bullshit............ microsoft why do you wanna piss off the few fans you have???

re: Monster Madness: In Game Content

I have no problem with content being made to sell seperatly but I would think with opinion of the game being low they should have held back on it. And then gave it a little later to at least give an illustion of hey we are still supporting the game but I would say even better if they were free.

If it is only six multiplayer maps on the disk like some have stated above then they better be exceptionally good since this is a full retail game.

Actually though wasn't the demo at Zacks house. This doesn't make the developers of this this game look good. The game had promise at the beginning and I will at least rent it. I would be willing to bet had they said 2 free maps there would be post of quite a few people saying they would buy it. Of course there would still be many that would say a crap flavored brownie doesnt taste better even if its free.

All the developers need to get a grip and taking advantage of downloadable content. Microsoft needs to get a grip too when they made Geometry Wars a priced game when Bizarre wanted to release it for free. Sad.

re: Monster Madness: In Game Content

jayntampa:

Really it comes down to two things.

1. This "premium" content really could have been added to the game. There's a possibility that maybe the maps weren't finished by the time the game was slated to ship to MS for final testing, but chances are that they were held back for this very reason, for marketing purposes and to try to squeeze even more cash out of their customers. A bad precedent has been set where companies find this kind of exploitation of their own customers acceptable. It would have been better to add more value to the actual core game by including the content in the first place rather than just upset people who thought they are getting the whole game just to find out that they have to spend more money to get a complete product.

2. People who don't buy this game have every right to complain because of the precedent that it sets. This kind of thing has been going on since the start of XBox live, and will continue until the publishers' marketing departments start realizing that extortion really only serves to hurt them PR wise. I'm not going to buy this game because I wasn't impressed with the demo, but there are certainly games now and in the future that I am and will be very excited about, which are going to end up upsetting me because they will sell me the game in a thousand little pieces in order to have the whole game experience. It wasn't too long ago that we expected these kinds of little things for free, and developers were happy to give them because it added more and continual value to their core games, but now we are expected to buy games ala carte.

re: Monster Madness: In Game Content

This is just a case of miscommunication. The game was supposed to be released two weeks ago, but it was held up in certification. Obviously, they submitted the maps at the same time for a release date a week and a half after the game came out.

Well, the game got delayed, but someone forgot to tell the Marketplace administrators to hold back the content.

I don't really understand why everyone is freaking out when they aren't even going to buy the game. If you're not buying it, you're not really in a place to make a comment about you, because it doesn't concern you. It's like people complaining about how bad a movie is without ever paying to go see it.

re: Monster Madness: In Game Content

Why do publishers charge for content on a game that's terrible and needs to focus on selling units rather than DLC?

Microsoft, this is your service. Whip those publishers into shape.

I realize, and i hope everyone else does too, that this content was not included as it missed the cut off date for certification and pressing. the question is why release it this soon? It only makes it appear that the content should have been in the game and that it was deliberately taken out.

(Im sure it wasnt but i dont think releasing it now is a good idea considering you have to pay $60 in 5 days to purchase the game to begin with.)

Again i say developers take note, dont do this. if you are working on new content while your game is in the certification and packagen / shipping mode. dont release it before or right after the product releases. It makes your product look incomplete.
