Why discriminate against loyal 360 fans in something like 30 other countries all over the world? A silly business move if nothing else.

Disgusted.

And so far this year only 58% of Blu-ray dvd movies were released on dual layer dvd disks(50gb). Sam Adam's movie "The Click" was the first Blu-ray dvd to be released on a dual layer disk(50gb).

On the other hand nearly all HD DVD movies released to date have been dual layer dvd disks(30gb). Therefore the majority of HD DVD's that are in stores today are at higher capacity than Blu-ray.

If Blu-ray wants to win the format war it needs to start shelling out more dual layer dvd disk and it need to lower it's manufautring cost. But I don't see this happening any time soon due to the fact that Blu-ray disks are more complicated to produce because of it's multiple copyright encryptions and surface protective coating.
Blu-ray has an additial encryptioning to protect copyrighted material which also adds unnessary complexity to the disk. On top of that Blu-ray also under goes a protective coatings process to physically protect the information stored on the disk. Unlike HD dvd's the information on Blu-ray disks are store on top layers of the disk and is easily damaged. With out this protective coating (and yes some Blu-ray disk don't have this coating) a small scratch will render you disk useless.

At this point HD DVD is the under dog but not for long. If Blu-ray does not get it's cost down and start producing more 50gd disk instead of the 25gb disk it will loss this war.

re: HD -DVD Player price drop (and free HD DVD's) (Updated)

This sucks, I just bought a new 360 HD Dvd player a week ago and now they changed the price and are giving away 5 hd dvd players.
Hd-Dvd has the most dedicated players sold. Period, thats the way it is. Now the number that Blu-ray report includes PS3 sales. Which does make it higher. Now if you look at sales, Blu-ray is on top. Why is that??? Im glad you asked, its very simple. Playing motorstorm and ninja gaiden sigma gets old. Lets face it Ps3 has nothing else you cant find on 360. My ps3 is a blu-ray player. it plays motorstorm demo and NGsigma from time to time.

When i bought my ps3 i picked up bond and pirates 1 and 2. NO GAMES. I later got ninja gaiden, but only after playing the demo.

I got my Hd-dvd drive december 15th 2006. I got King Kong (with it), Batman Begins and Superman Returns. I have sence added Mission Impossible movie pack (1,2 & 3), The Ultimate Matrix Trilogy, Bourne Supremicy and Bourne Identity. I intended to get 300 on HD tomorrow.

On the Blue-ray side i picked up Ghost Rider (lol believe it or not my girlfriend loved that movie)

Quality is nearly the same, those who spout out video is better on hd is are just fooling themselves. its the same. Now sound..... HD is a bit better on that, but id also guess thats movie to movie (MI3 is my example). It really comes down to features. Hd has more than Blu-Ray.

Will it win or lose, well from the looks of it, Hd is going to fail at some point. MS should go get exclusive rights to Star Wars Hd and also get the Lord of the rings trilogy out on hd now. that could save it, but i dont see that all happening. I just hope Lord of the rings trilogy and Bourne Ultimatium get out on Hd-dvd before it dies,

Ps3 fanboys post here with the we win stuff because they have nothing better to do, the games just arent there. Got to show that something is better than 360 i suppose.

.......

you do realize that HDDVD is only short by 20 videos... its like 330 to 350 right now... and according to upcoming releases hddvd will surpass bluray very soon, and on top of that i've seen both side by side, and hddvd so far is vastly more impressive.

The fact that from day 1, PiP commentary and other features, internet based stuff from the beginning and the fact that they USE VC-1 codecs which look fantastic, just make it definitly ahead of the game, i'll stand behind HDDVD FOR NOW.

As for Bluray, it seems they're getting desperate leaking this target thing for instance, especially when you have MAJOR Bluray backers now prepping to release dual format players
