i just woke up from a nap and i come online and check this out, and almost piss my pants. its about time something like this happens, dont matter what studio. HD DVD is a great product.

THIS IS AWSOMME,I love my 360 hd dvd player and use it all the time in my dlp projector home theater through my xbox 360 elite, but now this is just awsome that we are gonna be the only ones getting transformers. Im buying a second 360 for my room, just a core mind you, but this christmas along with all the great games im gonna getim gonna get another hd dvd player.

IMO... this is a despiration move for the dying HD-DVD format.

From the NYTimes:

"But money talks: Paramount and DreamWorks Animation together will receive about $150 million in financial incentives for their commitment to HD DVD, according to two Viacom executives with knowledge of the deal but who asked not to be identified. The incentives will come in a combination of cash and promotional guarantees."

This changes HD-DVD from a dying format to an underdog at best.

When do you let studios determine the format? You seem to forgot the Beta-VHS face off. It happens all the time with every format.

Second, clear better format is HD-DVD. I highly doubt that. I prefer bluray, java support, new interactive features, not just the lame commentary that comes with DVD. But those are my preferences. I have had too many incompatible HD-DVD movies that wont play properly. Sorry, its like getting the red ring of death. Just enough to piss me off.

What I like about HD-DVD is the readily available AACS key that can be googled.(yes I know blueray has it too, there are just other protection schemes ontop of it) I want DRM-less format. DIVX anyone?

Now here is where I absolutely hate both sides, the damn game companies trying to get involved and trying to make me decide, IT IS MOVIES. Sony is guilty and so is Microsoft.

I liked paramount because the offered two formats to let people decide what they wanted. They just sold out like rockstar. Just goes to show you money talks, even when the Format is NOT clearly superior if at all superior.

@ Tom G Really...I mean really. @ MSUnman Transformers was a fun movie but IMHO it was despite Michael Bay. He makes good spectacle movies. I am thrilled to be seeing it on my HD DVD. Bay is worried about the 'masses' being able to see his movie in HD but HD DVD will be the first to reach that magically $199 price point and is already at $299. With HD DVD, he will have a better shot at reaching the true masses when people actually really start buying HD players and when you like at both price points which will they buy? My guess is HD DVD. Up to know, neither side has been selling to the masses.

The news gets worse. Now Michael Bay is all mad and is against doing a second transformers movie. I really enjoyed the movie, I couldnt wait to get the blu ray and watch it on my ps3 in 1080p. I will now have to settle watching on HD DVD in 1080i instead. But the worse is if Michael Bay doesnt do the 2nd movie it wont be anywhere near as good as the first one. It would be nice if Spielberg threatened paramount and found a way for transformers to go through his loophole.

This is crappy news! Microsoft should stay out of the format war and not throw money at people to be HD-DVD exclusive. The PS3 is a much better blu-ray player than the 360 is a HD-DVD player(I own both).

I was planning to upgrade to Vista soon but now I will wait even longer and I will not purchase Halo 3.

Oh great....now the uncertainty of which HD format to buy is going to be drawn out for 2-3 more years before there is a definitive winner.

Exclusivity is not good for the consumer (cough...EA-NFL...cough). It's good for big corporations like Microsoft. It takes the decision out of consumer's hands and puts it into the hands of the most wealthy.

Second: Paramount choosing one format, just wow.

HD DVD makes really a big buzz with that news!

The same kind of buzz the flies around my a$$ make. ;)

Seriously, if HD DVD wants to make a dent they should pull something off like "Blockbuster choosing HD-DVD". But tying one studio (Paramount of all studios, rolleyes) is not enough!

And if "the Major" starts posting links to Yogi Bear on wikipedia you see how bad the situation of HD DVD really is. ;)

I kid, I kid I like my HD-DVD drive, only when playing DVDs or HDDVDs my xbox doesnt freeze every ten minutes.

great news... quality over quantity... I own both formats and I prefer hd dvd as of right now for its better software uses and extra features.

movies, games, literature... all entertainment..

If you on two game consoles then why not own two hd players... possible future=everyone supports both formats consumers and compoanies win.

I am quite happy with my upscalling DVD player. Personally I beleive downloading HD films from A marketplace is the way ahead.
