4. How about broadcasting some original video programming over X-Box Live? X-Box Live could be like a network like DirecTV, Comcast, or Dish Network. Microsoft would stream some live events or new programs over X-Box Live. Hire Diana Mizota (formerly from G4) to host something, please!

1. xbox is not cool anymore..Don't get me wrong..I am #1 Fanboy but something has happened...
During the original XBOX times I had a feeling about like its everything cool and it had a bit more glamour...more marketing more xbox here and xbox there..
NOW I can see the excel charts with breakeven, TCO and Stock-Reports infront of the heads of the executives from here.
There is absolute nothing sexy about the 360 - its just a "next-generation" console...there is nothing unique.

2. people in my forum (>3000 XBOX/XBOX360 Users (www.areagames.de)) are having discussion about xbox live is worth its money...
They see XboxLive basically as a plain Matchmaking System with some Stats and Rankings and don't see why they should pay for it (as PC-Games provide almost the same for the cost of the game).
XBL-Games all use peer2peer technology and thats somewhat difficult here in Germany.
Germany's major Backbone-Providers uses a technique that provides more failtollerance with the cost of more latency.
So while you guys on your t1-lines got 10ms from host to host we have 60-100ms from our host to the next DSLAM...you can easly imagine what happens if our matches are infiltrated by overseas players...our games become lags and everything starts to stutter and frustration comes up.
HALO3 against americans...on a 6MBit Line...forget it.
Second...the bandwithcapacity for "broadband" ranges from 128kbit up to 16Mbit.
To come back to XBL - they demand that XBL should provide dedicated servers for the money...they even offer to pay more.

3. Replace german XBOX Management...those guys totally sucks at all...but thats just my personal opinion.

re: What would you say to leaders of services at Microsoft ?

What would be cool is if their was a 'local networking' 1st party app for windows based portable devices . An idea I just got would be a piece of social networking software that met you up with like minded people using local wireless networking. The device would automatically detect nearby windows devices and load the device's user's (self created) profile, if available, wirelessly. The profiles throughout the day could either be screened for storage by certain attributes (like a particular interest, or home location, etc.) or all be logged in bulk. Devices could also be set to auto send preset messages to friends along the lines of "I'm around here, you want a cup of coffee?" or anything else the user may desire to say, mainly to catch a friend for meeting up, or maybe even starting social gatherings (or flash mobbing ;) ). Profiles, specifically, would have a certain number of options that would help screen exchanges of information between the devices. These options would be along the lines of interests, personalities, etc. Each option would have to be selected from a preset list created by MS, for both creation and screening of profiles... this would be for the sole purpose of simplifying the 'search' process, while still allowing users to enter more personalized information in the profile's body. Of course, users could petition MS for more interests, etc that could be added based on popularity. Other than that, normal chat, etc functionality would be built in. It would definitely be a cool app for the urban technophile, and since it would be 1st party, there would be a wide potential user base.

re: What would you say to leaders of services at Microsoft ?

TO begin with I would like to say thankyou for this opportunity. I would like to say that I personally don't think xbox live should become free because for the service to remain the same or to improve costs must be recouped from somewhere so it may result in software publishers charging fees for online play per game [like final fantasy] and this could end up being more costly for gamers in the longrun. one idea I have is for wireless headsets to have a small beeper device added for when you loose it around your home. Another feature I would like to see added is the ability to share music with friends both in appropriate games and whilst on dashboard listening to music.

It's fine if you want to create your own formats, if you think you can do a better job, but they should be available to be implemented by other people.

How can you expect to have your formats like wmv and wma to become widespread if they are restricted to Microsoft products only. You might be able to get away with it on the PC, due to your dominance of the market, but as the mp3 market has shown, it doesn't work everywhere.

In terms of Xbox, the console should support other video formats such as xVid and you should be more open with your wireless spec. It's disappointing for Rock Band to not have a wireless guitar due to entirely non-technical issues.
