If the video marketplace isnt available in the UK before christmas i will NOT renew my xbox live subscription untill it is. Personnally, the friend of friend thing is pointless, i dont want to see other peoples friends and i dont want other people to see my friends.

This isn't the only update for the dashboard and Friends of Friends is amazing if you are looking to play custom games or find people who are playing the game you are currently playing at that exact moment. For Halo 3 custom games such as MLG and Infection if you are into it, this little feature is worth it to me. Whambulance to all others.

Surely to compete with PS3 they should sign a deal with DivX and allow divx video playback? Failing that XVid is opensource and they could work that into the 360 media player.

I know TVersity exists but will it be required forever?

Xbox 360

Similarly to Sony's Playstation 3, Microsoft has (almost) announced the availability of DivX playback support on the Xbox 360.

In a conference call with investors, CEO Kevin Hell suggested that the video codec would appear on the Xbox 360 - though he also said that a deal had not been finalised.

It's only taken two generations of console and Sony getting in on the game, before Microsoft allowed the codec officially.

On Tuesday Microsoft announced that its forthcoming fall dashboard update will enable Xbox 360 owners to download original Xbox titles such as Halo, Fable, Crash Bandicoot and Burnout 3 via Xbox Live Marketplace.

However, the company has since posted a list of known issues affecting the performance of the classic games on its latest hardware.

"Any additional content within a game (such as a demo or trailer) is not supported by Xbox Originals titles and selecting those options may result in crashing the game (requiring a restart of the console)."

Halo suffers from "some very mild frame rate drops", while in Fable "there are some random bursts of audio static and some minor texture issues".

Ok, One of MY dear friends who has a console that is out of warranty (I wont give you his name since your comment is too stupid ) Got an official microsoft branded drive(I'm not talking about the HDD), replaced by a microsoft authorized repair shop.He informs me that it is cheaper and also a same day service (not bad eh?)Anyway the problem was that when he got home,played the console for a hour,turned it back on after a couple of hours and got an error message when he signed onto LIVE. Put 2 and 2 together and You'll get the answer.

I know I should not have made the original comment, but if you left my rant be I would'nt need to write this s***.............homeboy! And if anyone wants to know what happened with the above^^^^^^. He got it sorted....Ahhh,we love a happy ending

I don't mean to be rude but the Update is 5 days away...can we get the full list of features already? Seriously what's the hold up? We all know the live team must have a finished list of what's coming and are sure of what's definately coming to the update...even if there are a few they are unsure of...give us the rest. Each update usually ushers in about 85 or so features...can we have some more please?

How about removing the ads for GOLD members?..if MS is banking on AD money then they should hand out GOLD memberships for free. It seems like there's more everytime I connect to LIVE. MS and EA are going to destroy gaming...I don't want adds on my dashboard if I'm a gold member and the EA sports game billboard ads in the Simpsons game was asinine and prevented me from purchasing it.

"Why is it that things that users - PAYING users - ask for (broader codec support, browser, clan support, multichat, more resolutions) are never on the list of features announced and instead we're being given "Friends of friends"?

The competition is listening to common demands and NOT charging for it (adding Divx for free for example), MS is ignoring its paying customers and adding useless features like these? Sure, PSN is hardly as good as XBL, it's crap, they're deploying patches all the time, but hey, at least they add nice perks that we're not even getting after 2 years!

Dear Larry, please let the gurus making the calls on what's to be included in dashboard updates know that it would be nice to actually not just acknowledge users' wishes and then go on to totally ignore them while favoring other features no-one has ever asked for. So MS has invested in Facebook now, does that mean that XBL has to go all "privacy is outdated" instead of focussing on becoming a more complete, USEFULL service?

It doesn't work this way.

It's like ordering a BigMac and instead, half an hour later, being given a cardboard birthday crown by someone with a big smile and saying to you "Here you go, don't you look great with that!"

This post says it all. Listen to your customers Microsoft, we want a little more insentive in owning the console you praised so highly as being above the competition when the competition is adding more for much less.

If you dont like it, you could always get a PS3 and go on their network, that is if £40 a year is too much for you. WOW players pay more than that for one single game, so I think we have it alright

These updates are more and more geared to extracting more money from already paying users. What exactly am I paying my gold membership fee for? It seems I am paying for the privilage of playing a game I already spent a fortune on, online. And then the rest is adverts, 20 year old games, pictures, backgrounds for the adverts, and now with the update I will not only be able to pay to download games I didnt wanna buy the first time around on the Xbox, but I can also see the friends of my friends. I simply cannot wait!

No point spending your time on stuff that people actually want to use (divx, group chat, etc) as that actually generates no extra revenue!
