Hi Major , great news but I have a problem i.e. my xbox 360 is not connected with the internet coz I have a slow dial-up connection :(

Is this update available as a stand-alone download, just the way May 2007 update is available?

Finally got a chance to try out the DIVX stuff in the dash, after downloading the patch all the videos I tried worked... Great job team... I love the speed of the dash too.

I happened to change my live id before I knew there were problems with it. I am now not able to be able to sign in to msn from the console? Is anyone else having this problem?

Is it too much to ask for a patch to QUIET THE DISC DRIVE?

Honestly, I can think of 50 people locally who wish the darned thing did not sound like an engine taking off (over-statement, a little). After I found that little trick on the Xbox.com forums, I enjoyed the silence. Only...it was short lived.

I've posted my theories on why the disc drive is beneficial on the forums, and I'll post them here to maybe get more attention. Remember, these are theories, but I'm more than certain that they hold merit. Major, please ask the guys to look into quieting the drive. I know for sure their will be much happier gamers out there if they could hear the game they're playing. Anyways, theory time:

I have a new theory however. My theory is that this solution might just prevent Disc Read Errors. Why? Well, before, the disc was spinning at such a high speed. It is possible that the laser was not fast enough to read the disc. Now, since the disc is spinning at such a lower rate, the laser has all the time it needs to read the disc correctly.

Just a theory.

And to add to that, another user has commented with a theory of his own:

If spindle speed is lowered, less disc wobble, lower chance of scratched disks, ect...

I sincerely think that the disc drive DOES NOT need to spin at full speed.

Other, I'm actually fairly happy with the new update. Xbox Originals is awesome (Fusion Frenzy FTW), DivX/Xvid is awesome (Though not through Media Center? You emphasize that the 360 is a Media Center, yet you belittle it to force streaming through WMP11...I thought we were past that...), the Dashboard is much faster for me, and Video Store support for Canada in a couple days is sheer win for me, and other Canadians/Europeans.

But still, FORWARD MY MESSAGE ABOUT THE DISC DRIVE PROBLEM.

Hey, does anyone know if all of the issues that have been mentioned in this thread have been fixed yet? I am pretty freaked out about downloading the update and do not want to risk messing up my system. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks a lot everyone!!!

Hey Major, I have a complaint about the update. I'm sure it has been mentioned before, but I just want to get my part in here. I am 17 years old and am allowed to buy Mature rated content from all retail stores. It even says that the Mature rating is for ages 17+. So why is Mature content on the XBLM no longer available for me to download. Every time I try to download a Mature rated piece of content, it just says it is not allowed for me. I find this problem very troublesome, especially with the release of the Heroic Map Pack for Halo 3 being released next week. I am assuming that I will not be able to download the maps unless this problem is fixed.
